Celef PE1 Speakers - VGC. Rare. Upgraded crossover. Sound wonderful.
Celef exist now as Proac.
Happy to demo - i live near to Bristol, Bath, Frome.
Very musical speakers with great stereo imaging and a big detailed sound-stage across all frequencies. Lush midrange and big bass when needed (down to 30Hz). Also good at lower volumes. The treble is not harsh at all, so no listening fatigue.
All drivers and components in now in VGC condition.
The internal upgrades used matched (modern) components which enhanced the overall sound and took it it the next level.
Reason for very reluctant sale is my listening area is too small for these speakers - as you will see if you come for a demo.
Come with original covers. Stands are included - the black 3 leg stands in the photo (which i filled with dry kiln sand for enhanced dampening).
More detailed info:
The original crossovers and wiring were old and are not as good as the modern replacements. Full internal upgrade consisted of:
- Crossovers rebuilt with new, matched Solen capacitors and Expotus ceramic resistors
- Full Internal Re-wire with 3-core OFC cabling (twisted 3 pairs)
- New driver and cabinet gaskets
- New gold terminals which accept 4mm Banana plugs or bare wire
- Tested electrically and musically (see results below)
Speaker driver units:
KEF B200 Midrange / Bass Driver - a legend and used in most early KEF reference speakers. The daddy of all the B200's. Very detailed mids and bass down to 30Hz.
Audax HD13D34 tweeter. Just wonderful. Used in multiple high-end speakers.
Motorola KSN 1036 piezo super-tweeter. This really makes an audible different.

Frequency Response: 30Hz to 30KHz
Impedance: 8ohms. Minimum 6 ohms.
Sensitivity: 86db - Note - these speakers are fairly easy to drive but not with any 'flea powered' amps - happy to advise. I have used both solid state class AB, class D and also tube amplification (an amazing integrated Cayin - also for sale).
Size: 25" high x 11" wide x 12" deep ... or in new money - 63.5cm high x 28cm wide x 30cm deep

Driver Analysis
Tests on all drive units - quote from tests:
" All the drivers are in excellent electrical condition and are the best match I have ever come across in a pair of PE1's."
